Kinshasa...Congo? Can't be right?

acmi48 6th Mar 2005 14:45

yep.to be PC the democratic rep of congo....more interested in the reasons..ie wet runway..as belgium SN and AF were landing on a declared landing dist of 2800m

Speedbreak 8th Mar 2005 08:17

....runway mesures, in FIH, are 3600m,... is it too short?
SN, slip out of the runway during a turn at the end of the runway, before lining up! .Never overun the runway after landing!
AF, ... never ear about it!
Only TAP, in 1995 or 1996, break problems...
Nothing cause by the length of the runway!

See you!

Has the aircraft been pulled out of the sand?
Is it able to fly?
Has anyone got any pictures?

acmi48 11th Mar 2005 13:06

the a/c made a runway excursion on turning on the same after landing.not as i may have indciated as an overun at the end. the a/c appeared to continue into the sand area of vegetation at the side and the nose wheel began to sink into the soft earth, subsequent efforts to continue to try to return to the runway on power have probably damaged the section 41 to the point where the hull is not recoverable.
pictures are being forwarded to me and the runway is clear

the a/c a 200 classic with manual body gear steering, chance same was not in operation for what everreason may have caused this

MK B747-200 in Kinshasha

Hello All

Just seen the pics and it is not as bad as it sounds.

Not sure if its a hull loss or a major check is needed though.

Cheers

Small doubts about the story !

A/C (overrun, verred off, total loss, major checks and/or repair )
according to the previous postings on March 5. Fine !

But if you check on A.net and planepictures, the A/C has been
spotted on the 6th in Ostend, on the 7th in Recife and on the 8th
in Rio de Janeiro ! Must have been a real tragic incident !

Heard it was loss of nose-wheel steering. What news about tail-pipe fire during/after landing in Dubai??
