You have no idea how bad it really is at the WTC

Dear Friends;

As some of you might know, I work in Newark across the river from NY City. I was alerted to the trouble on Tuesday by a colleague who came running into my office telling me that one of the twin towers was on fire. Across the river, that's what it looked like. The top 10 floors were on fire.. I commented it would be a real tough job to save those folks as ladders don't go that high. At that point I went back to my office thinking it was just a fire.

We all know what happened next.

Today, after a good night's rain, I visited the site. It was almost like walking in paint or heavy slush. I tried to volunteer to help and have a noon-4:00pm slot tomorrow at which point I will be bringing towels, deodarants, toothpaste and brushes as well as water to the NYFD and NYPD. At this point we have already lost 300 firefighters alone.

T.V doesn't do justice to the disaster site. It is almost 8-10 stories high of concrete, steel beams, plaster board and numerous other objects in the area at the time of impact including body parts (which I didn't need to see), as well as cars, buses, papers and computer parts...by no means a complete list.

Anything you could do to help would be greatly appeciated. We're hurting here right now. But, I know we'll rebuild and come back as big and as honnoray as ever. Right now though, we don't have enough of anything to even muster a decent putdown, let alone an " in your face comment".

Please help as best you can.

Thanks

Andy,
I know there are organisations right now trying to arrange all the things you need, and I know that, when asked, everyone here will give whatever help they can. Like a considerable proportion of the Pprune community, I have been involved in wars and helped out in disasters and I have a good idea, thanks to TV, of the problems you face.
You have the implicit support of every decent human being of every religion or persuasion who reads this site. If there is specific help we can give, I'm sure Danny will be pleased to publish the appropriate information.
God bless.

You say that the world doesn't know how bad it is at the WTC. We know it is worse than our wildest nightmare ... but it's even worse than that. Maybe we don't want to know how bad it is. The world is speechless. The aviation profession alone has lost collegues. Scroggs is not wrong when he says that the Pprune members would do anything to help, I think I speak for all Pruners on that. Credit to you for helping.

My heart still bleeds for the victims.

RIP :(

Andy,

We are all more aware of the scale of this than you might think. Certainly in the UK the television coverage has been enormous - as it was right to be.

It has been brought home to us with the knowledge that this is the worse case of terrorism for Britain with the numbers of Britons who were in the World Trade Center. We know that the effect on the US is very much greater.

When I saw the second aircraft to hit the south tower (the first shown on TV) I thought that it was a 737 - and I fly them! The fact that it was a 767 brought home to me the enormous scale of the tragedy.

I'm trying to either find an existing disaster fund solely dedicated to helping aviation industry victims or get one started.

Please check out the 'questions' forum, topic: 'pprune disaster fund' for more details.

One way we can all help, even if it is an indirect means, is to write our elected representatives in goverment, and state clearly and strongly, that we expect them to work together in a cohesive manner in combatting terrorism in this world. We need to make sure they understand that we need a multi-faceted approach to the problem and that there can be no quarter given or asked for in this fight. Every means possible must be used to combat the existing groups and to prevent other groups from being able to project a threat to any nation or population ever again. This includes force, political measures, and economic sanctions against nations that refuse to join in our cause as is deemed appropriate. Our elected leaders must hear it from the people so they know the strenght of our anger over this. This holds for all nations just not the United States for we are all the targets of these zealots that mean us harm.

I worked at 22nd and 6th during the first half of last year and came to love NYC.

You are all doing magnificently across there and my heart is with you.

Help is on the way, both from the US and externally - I know it must be hard, but keep up the good fight, ultimately you will overcome this terrible situation and emerge stronger.

Andy

Having watched the tragedy unfold live on TV I have never felt so affected by world events before.

My heart goes out to you.

Kindest regards

Katy
