World Airways DC-10 NTSB report
Hello,
I don't know if it's not worth discussing or everybody missed this one? http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...15X00469&key=1 I would have thought that missing 40% of elevators prevents normal cruise?! |
|
Hi, the report says 40% of the right inboard elevator was destroyed. So they still had 60% of it remaining, plus the left inboard, plus the outboard elevators, plus the horizontal stabilizer.
What was left of the right inboard elevator was powered by two separate hydraulic systems, #1 and #3. A combination of all three systems powered the left inboard, the outboard elevators, and the horizontal stabilizer. What a plane :ok: MS |
"What a Plane".......
Yep....... unless you're ploughing through the Ermenonville forest outside Paris after an explosive decompression..... or landing at Sioux City with the tail-feathers severed........bm

God, get over it Boeing MEL! The DC10 is a great airplane. There have been many Boeing disasters as well but unbiased people don't harp on it.
|
BoeingMEL have you flown the DC10?
|
...and engines falling off, as in Chicago....
|
and 747 rear bulkhead failing out of Japan
|
Engineer, JAL 747 rear bulkhead failure was due to an improperly performed (by Boeing) repair, not a design defect.
As was the ORD engine pylon, Maxalt...MX used an unapproved procedure during an engine change that cracked it...trying to save time and $$, with the usual results from such practices. Perhaps a better word for the -10 is 'unlucky'... but those that fly it seem to like it well enough. Like any other DC-plane it's well put together, IMHO. I'd fly one any time. TT |
