RYR Go-around @ STN

Once again the assembled masses watched in horror at the hold points of rwy 23 yesterday morning as they saw an Easyjet enter the runway in front of a landing Ryanair 737.
As this is becoming a regular occurance I wonder if there is some specialised advanced training and are you guys choosey as to who you 'pull out in front of'?

Surely one of the "assembled masses" had an airband in their anorak... ask them

A4 18th Dec 2003 21:02

That's why STN needs two runways........... ;) :p

GOLF-INDIA BRAVO 18th Dec 2003 21:21

What are you saying? was he cleared to line up or did he miss the holding point?

Yes life with two runways is a lot easier as Manchester has found out

Of interest has Stansted still got to go through an enqiry and all the planning requests or can they basically go ahead with the second runway?

According to BBC BAA may well increase runway fees which I guess will hack of the loco`s ( not really Ryanairs day)

Buzzdoff

What's the answer?

Did he have clearance to enter the runway or not?

741A 18th Dec 2003 23:09

Hey Buzzdoff, one can appreciate your displeasure but not your sarcasm :( .
Rest assured the event is being investigated and the tapes have been pulled....

Gentlemen

What an unseemly debate.

There maybe (ohmigod) journos watching.

What ever happened to the stiff upper lip and 'a non event, just a normal operational procedure executed professionally?' attitude???????

BRL 19th Dec 2003 02:27

I suggest you let this one drop for a while. There is an investigation being carried out right now so let's not fan the flames on here. You will find out sooner or later what happened.

Big Buddha 19th Dec 2003 07:48

Are you really trying to sugest that this was done on purpose!! Grow up

burn the mullal 19th Dec 2003 16:39

GOLF-INDIA BRAVO, I was reading a BAA Circular on the new runway lastnight in our ops room, and it says they still would have to go through the application and developement process to get the new runway approved....!!!!!

I think the circular is readily available in Enterprise House, in the paper boxes as you go in.!!!

Ringo 19th Dec 2003 17:38

Best thing would be to put Prescott in charge, that way it'll never happen!!

Mistakes happen. Its a fact of life and we are all human. Whats important is nothing came of it. He went around and that is that. I was on a flight recently (light turboprop) and the aircraft was cleared to line up behind a heavy and then told to take off asap as there was a heavy on a 4 mile final. The turbo could not comply due to minimum spacing and had to vacate the runway only just avoiding causing a go around.

Its just a mistake and they happen. Cant be helped but I dont really think its a big deal as long as everyone carried out the required procedures safely then all is good!

MPH 19th Dec 2003 18:58

What’s all the fuss about? The crew of this flight executed a perfectly normal maneuver, under the circumstances. To the contrary, I’m afraid that the news might have been somewhat more dramatic if, they had not followed their SOP’s! :ok:

timzsta 20th Dec 2003 03:16

Similar incident this morning. An Easyjet was told to be ready for immediate departure with an Air Berlin 737 on 3 mile final. Easyjet apparently then delayed on the runway and was then had to be told to abort with the Air Berlin being told to go around inside of 1.5 miles. Could have been rather nasty, but ended ok. I was drinking coffee with the Air Berlin crew before the Easyjet got to have another go!

johnpilot 20th Dec 2003 03:35

The incident this morning timzsta was not the same as the one yesterday. In the RYR case tower cleared Easyjet to line up and wait behind the landing traffic on short final. The easyjet guys repeated the clearance back corectly and then for no apparent reason crossed the red stop bars on to the active runway. RYR did a go around as anyone would have done and Easyjet said sorry. Mistakes do happen to all of us, it could have been the other way around it could have been to easyjets or it could have been two ryanairs. It is realy a non issue as I cannot see anything deliberate about this case.

FlapsOne 20th Dec 2003 03:53

Oh No! A mistake!

Shock, horror!

Bomber Harris 20th Dec 2003 08:14

As you just said it could of been two ryanairs....or two easyjets. Either way it was two PEOPLE who happened to work for two different airlines at a point in time. Both proffesionals but one made a mistake and procedures are in place to cater for that mistake..... a go around. It was executed safely and everybody knows what happened and will learn from it (ATC enquirey will ensue and report will be distributed).....thats cos we're all proffesionals!!!

I think think this thread is a bit of a no brainer....only scaremongerers, uneducated and journos contribute from now on please...........

liquidgold 20th Dec 2003 21:23

Well great topic, Easyjet had to initiate a go around because ryanair hit a rabiit on the runway, did ryanair deliberately hit the rabbit to make Easyjet go around????
Bit petty chaps eh?

chiglet 21st Dec 2003 00:45
