British World Aircraft impounded???

Apparently there was a BBC report this morning on a couple of Brit Worlds a/c being impounded. Any truth in this rumour?? :(

snooze_ya_lose 30th Nov 2001 17:21

Who can say? Hard to believe that the BAA impound aircraft due to an "overzealous employee" as has been claimed.

This is now the third thread on this subject, the first two were buried extremely quickly, by, one assumes, PPRuNe moderators who work for BWA. Not very fair when you consider that 1) the two previous threads were simply asking a question and 2) similar questions about other airlines are allowed to stand- one assumes because they do not have an employee who is also a moderator here.

How about it, moderators, or can we expect this and the other, newer thread on the same subject to disappear in the blink of an eye?

CrashDive 30th Nov 2001 17:40

Well, I can categorically state that it wasn't me who (re)moved any previous threads on this.

Now knowing a lot more about what happened the other evening than YOU do, I can indeed confirm that some BAA jobs-worth did indeed slap a ‘lien’ on one of our aircraft, however within the hour we’d sorted it all out – it’s just a shame that the folks at BAA don’t seem to be able to pick up a phone and talk to us before they react.

Also, that said, I still work at BWA, we’re still poodling along (and yeah, times are tough, but they’re tough for everybody – in case you hadn’t noticed), I / we’ve just been paid (unlike some), and we’ve haven’t had any redundancies (unlike some).

So, ultimately, all a non-event.

I hope that’s answered your questions ?!

CrashDive 30th Nov 2001 17:47

tilii - right now it's a sensitive time for a lot of airlines and accordingly we don't really want rabble-rousers coming in here, rocking the boat, and looking for problems where they don't exist - and especially so when my / our jobs depend on a period of smooth water - rather than tempestuous ones.

Now we know you have an axe to grind with some of us at PPRuNe, but to be brutal, as it's our toy we'll run it as we see fit - and if you want freedom of speech then go and start your own BBS !

Here, here Crashdive. Too many people out there with a point to make but with no substantiation other than being bored witless. Or is that witless and boring?

WhiteSail 30th Nov 2001 20:54

:) :) :) Well done CrashDive.

About time someone cleared the waters.

Lets be clear, everyones in the **** and we need some positive contributions to our world to survive!

EXECUTE 30th Nov 2001 22:28

Nice one CrashDive, We've got an excellent team at Brit World as you well know - keep the trouble makers out of here! :)

Raw Data 30th Nov 2001 23:11

Go for it Crash!

Sounds like a repeat of a similar incident many moons ago when an equally innocent airline suffered the same fate.

Right, too, about the need for calm rather than endless wild rumours and foolish speculation. A lot of people are working very hard to keep us all in jobs, and they need this sort of stuff like a hole in the head!

Nice One CrashDive,

It's your train set, so if these boys want to sit back and take pot shots, give them a quick blast with the old blunderbus! I've never worked for BWA, but have been closely associated with them up north of Hadrian's Wall, and they are a good bunch.

Wings Level, Ball in the puddle! :p

HARRY GREYHOUND 1st Dec 2001 22:19

I recall same thing happened last year about the time rumour had it the barely managed to cover the payroll. WS of national jet supposedly saved the day, now with them gone to the wall things don,t look too good. There is no smoke without fire. :(

CrashDive 1st Dec 2001 22:50

Harry the dog - To paraphrase Harold Wilson if 'A week is a long time in politics.' then at the moment a day in the aviation business is barely the blink of an eye !

Last year was last year. NJI came and went, and it probably did a lot more harm to BWA than any good that it brought, i.e. just look around Italy to see the fall out that NJI left behind, and one might (must) say BWA got off light, comparatively.

Nb. Since the date when I joined (in April) BWA have consistently met the pay check date (including expenses) - and this month (November) was no exception.

So let's please have less of the slagging and negative rumours - because, and to reiterate the point(s) above, BWA are still trading, still paying the staff, still flying ALL their aircraft, still trying to moving forwards, e.g. the B757 is a rip-roaring success, we've got some fabulous business in hand (which I can't divulge at the moment for commercial reasons), etc, and all of which is a LOT more than many other airlines are able to say at the moment - but that said, times are tough, for ALL of us, and we ALL need all the support (and not negative publicity / rumour) that we can get ! ..... I hope that you'll agree.

PPRuNe Pop 2nd Dec 2001 00:36

You know, I agree with Crash Dive. And you will all say "well he would wouldn't he". But I have had a similar situation when I operated aircraft. On the same that day that Freddie Laker had liens slapped on all his DC10-30's at LGW. "THEY", because I moved Laker crews around, thought we should be included as well!

I can tell you it very very annoying.

Now Crash has been up front and not taken offence but some people like to throw stones. However, why they choose to use their own greenhouses beats me.

So since he or BWA won't close this thread - because it has gone far enough now in my view - and Danny has his head in books for a sim ride. I'm on my own here, and I will close it for them.

If they choose to open it again - so be it.
