BA 777 diverts into GLA

BA 777 diverts into GLA
A bit of breaking news, at approx 1235 (bst) BA 777 G-VIIL touched down at Glasgow and was followed off the runway by the local AFS. The aircraft taxied to one of the stands used by Easyjet opposite the BA hangar, where the aircraft was checked by the AFS before the pax were disembarked from D2L in a calm and unhurried manner.
No further info at the moment regarding flt no., destination or the nature of the diversion.

So presume BA2025 today was supposed to go to IAH (Houston)... Took ~2 hours to get to GLA so maybe started transatlantic and/or dumping before landing there.

Well done GLA ATC
I took off about 5 mins before the mayday landed, and GLA and Scottish were keeping the flow going. They had lots of notice of the inbound emerg traffic and were keen to get as much away as possible. Lots of airports clamp at the hint of an inbound problem. Didn't see or hear the 777, glad it all turned out well for the chaps.

I've been told from a good source it was smoke in the cabin. The aircraft is still at Glasgow (a big jet like that looks way out of place next to Easy 73's!!) and I can only assume there are engineers on the way from LHR. None of the BA guy's at Glasgow have cover on the 777. Don't know any more details as yet.

Spoke to one of the EGPF controllers who handled the flight this morning, a/c got out to 10W when fumes developed in cabin, crew donned oxygen masks and declared a pan, immediate diversion to Glasgow.
Fumes were believed to be from something in one of the cargo holds although no signs of smoke or fire were found by fire service on arrival.
A/c was due back out to KIAH sometime tonight, but flight plan was cancelled so I don't know if it has or will be going today.
Fatboy, I'll pass on your praise to the controllers who were on this morning, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.
