Squawk 8888. .. .Why are you surprised? The liberal party of Canada is incompetent and so is the government that they head. . .. .To head off any rockets, I am not involved nor do I belong to any political party. I'm just a concerned citizen.

Hey it could be worse! In the UK we have an airport departure tax, £10 for short haul and £20 for long haul. How much of this is spent on aviation? Thats right, a big fat zero!

I looked into the cost of a YTO-YOW 1hr AC Tango flight yesterday, to connect with BA ex LHR or AC ex SNN [in August] CAD230, with one third of that being classified as "taxes, fuel supplements and airport improvement fees [CAD10 at YTO and YOW]. .. .With AC's monopoly on LHR-YOW, BA to Montreal and the choochoo to Ottawa is suddenly looking very attractive...

Good choice, VIA rail is government subsidized to the tune of 18c per ASM...or something like that.

True, VIA is subsidized like anything, but they let you take your nail clippers and Leathermen tool and the cabin service isn't bad. At least it isn't AMTRAK.

Iron City - is Amtrak really that bad? It can't be worse than a certain rail company in the UK whose UK airline cousin sets an example by which all others are measured. . .. .Anyway, I thought all the SLF were jumping on board the trains and leaving the planes in the US?. .. .I recently came back through YUL and noticed that the airport improvement(?!) fee had increased by 50% over the same time last year. Quite frankly YUL is still a dump. Where does the AIF go to? Probably subsidising Mirabel.. .. .AA
