Question British Airways diversion: fuel fumes from 'cabin baggage'

Just saw this on a news web site:

British Airways plane diverted after fuel fume scare

A British Airways Boeing 737 was forced to divert to Rome's airport, after passengers smelled petrol fumes en route from Naples to London.

The crew discovered petrol leaking from a portable generator in the carry-on baggage of one of the 132 passengers, whose identity has not been released.

British Airways has begun an inquiry to find out how the potentially dangerous generator was allowed as hand baggage.
