Delta 757-200 Birdstrike damage

A Delta 752 charter carrying the Utah Jazz basketball team hit a flock of birds on departure from SLC. Major damage to number 1 engine including at least 3 fan blades fractured.
The big pieces were contained.

Wow! Blood on the starboard side of the nose and number 1 shut down. Could have been a lot worse.

single bird in the engine of about a 4 lb size. Could be only the one bird splitting itself on the inlet cowl lip about the 3 o'clock position.
