Cockpit relatives

I have to think this is somewhat rare. Once you get over the headline...Plane passengers delighted to learn pilots have special relationship;

Delta passengers delighted to learn pilots were a mother-daughter team

apparently there are husband/wife teams as well. Personally I wouldn't be keen on that.

I’ve crewed flights with my wife before. We didn’t (and still don’t) request it, we just let it happen when it gets rostered that way. We don’t make special announcements, don’t take photos, don’t make a big deal of it. We treat it like any other work day. According to the FAs people don’t seem to notice (or care!) that we have the same name.

Friend of mine flew with his father and I flew about 10 years with my mother. Nothing special at all. Only person with a hard time was my father, who was an atco at our home base and when he would make mother no.2 he´d go without a warm evening meal...

There is the sketch where the married couple are in the cockpit and she reminds him he was caught playing away. Can't remember who did it.

I noticed I became a little bit tenser when I was conducting winch exercises as a SAR commander with my sister being lowered by the winch. Not necessarily because it was my little sister, but because of me imagining the face of my upset mom if something would have happened to her.

Come fly with me.
Simon and Jackie Trent.
Hubby (Captain) played away.
Wife became FO to keep an eye on him, and never lets him forget it on the flight deck.
Bloody hilarious.

I flew with a boyfriend (capt)/girlfriend(F/O) duo years ago. They had fallen out and were not speaking. Most flight deck communication was via me in the middle seat (FE). F/O trying to be professional but capt ignoring her.

dixi188. Yep. Flew with a F.O. boyfriend and CC girlfriend, who had found out boyfriend had been playing away. During the flights (over the space of a week), the CC would come up front with my coffee, turned to the boyfriend, said "bast*rd", and go down the back. Poor sod only got coffee on the turnrounds, when he made it himself.

To be fair would you "want" coffee from someone who has just found out you have been playing away.

There's a "never asking for directions" joke in there somewhere.

We just had this situation as SLF on OGG->LAX on Alaska yesterday. Father captain and son first officer. There was applause from some other SLF.

Personally I don't think it is optimal from a CRM perspective.

Remember reading about several father/son combinations although the likelihood of that happening depends a lot on the seniority system of the airline. If any of my sons were to join my outfit, they'd have a 50% chance of starting on the same fleet and depending on career progress I might not even be on a fleet open to new hires. Some places allow down bidding, some don't.

As for husband/wife or similar combos, a lot of professionalism is required and they should definitely be free to sign off without reprimand in case of domestic troubles preceding a flight.

Jeez, screw that.
I go to work so there’s 4000 miles and 40000 feet between us. Abscence makes the heart grow fonder and all that .

Folks,
I seem to recall, many years ago, a QF flight, where the Captain, F/O and S/O were father and sons, and a daughter was in the cabin crew ---- and the company publicity mob (who probably set it up) milked it for all it was worth, prime time news on every channel in the country, major daily newspapers, the lot.
Tootle pip!!
