United 483 from O'Hare to Phoenix Makes Emergency Landing in Cedar Rapids

Airline passengers had to spend Monday night in Cedar Rapids after an emergency landing on their late-night flight from Chicago to Phoenix.

United Airlines says their Flight 483 took off from O’Hare at 9:33 p.m. Instead of arriving three hours later in Phoenix, the plane arrived at a gate at The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids at 10:56 p.m. United says the plane experienced a mechanical issue before landing safely in Cedar Rapids.

Data from the website FlightAware.com shows the plane dropped nearly 3,000 feet to 25,275 in only two minutes’ time.

United Flight 483 usually runs a Buffalo – Chicago – Phoenix route.

The Eastern Iowa Airport says their flight is expected to leave around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

United Flight 483 departed Chicago at around 9:30 p.m. running about an hour and a half late. Once the plane reached 28,000 feet, the Boeing 737 made a turn over Washington County in eastern Iowa and headed towards The Eastern Iowa Airport. The plane landed in Cedar Rapids shortly before 11 p.m. Numerous emergency vehicles and personnel were standing by as the plane landed safely.There is no official word on why the planed made the emergency stop. People who were on the flight took to Twitter and said that the plane suffered from engine problems and that everyone on board was staying over in Cedar Rapids Monday night.

Wonder how i survived those "2500fpm or greater" descends so far, or the usual 7500pm airbus drop downs in case of hot and high...
