Courtesy of Airline Secrets Exposed -

Yesterday a Dana Air aircraft flying from Lagos to Port Harcourt overshot the runway. The airline which experienced a crash in 2012 killing 153 passengers in a Lagos suburb in addition to the story above where its exit door fell off upon landing in Abuja.

The airline issues a statement saying "We wish to once again reassure our guests that their safety and comfort will remain our top priority and we shall continue to adhere strictly to high safety standards and recommended practices as required by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Thankfully there were no casualties and all our passengers and crew on board were disembarked safely with the timely response from the ground emergency services. We are grateful for the swift reaction of the emergency response teams and safe evacuation of all on board."

A 3,000m runway at Port Harcourt. Any guesses for how much of it had passed by before touchdown? My guess over half!

Somebody should make a reality-TV series out of this outfit.

That Mad Dog is in pretty good shape for her wild ride. Will make a great chicken coup. They may even get around to reusing the stove pipes unless the crew tried to reverse out of the sand trap. For any runway, there will be a pilot that needs 1000m more on a given approach. The trick is not being around on the inside or projected debris path when that crew/plane/weather/runway mix occurs. Having a smart phone however adds a new revenue stream to the whole plane watching deal.

Putting the "off" into perspective, the B737-200ADV in S'AFRICA that attempted the 3 point turn on the taxiway tore itself up much more than the MD did here. The passengers are probably not going to billed extra for the entertainment here, and they still have heart beats.

This is the industry that we have elected to have. Passengers, you get what you have been prepared to pay for, following the government oversight that you have got through your considered use of the vote. Coming to an airport near you by request. The industry has "developed" to the extent that the US flight crew on regionals are on food stamps, and as the terms and conditions are comparable to McDonalds, the US is now chasing talent to man their expanding services from other sources. On normal crewing levels, at last 5 crews worth of warm bodies needing new employment are now available from Pt Harcourt, or other locations in the land of the 419.

We are well behind in the quota of "off's", must be time for pop corn, however it is always possible that the US Monarch did indeed improve global safety through his majestic force of character.
