US House of Representatives vote to allow guns in cockpit

It looks like it might happen...

From BBC News 24:

The US House of Representatives has passed legislation to allow commercial pilots to carry lethal weapons for protecting against terrorists.
The bill, which hopes to boost airline security in the wake of the 11 September suicide hijackings, was passed 310 votes to 113.

Correspondents say the measure faces an uncertain passage through the Senate, where it lacks support of key leaders.

The legislation is also opposed by the Bush administration, which says stronger cockpit doors and undercover armed agents on aircraft are safer options.
