Safety record isn't always the aircrafts fault, when a type is designed for certain operations which aren't western airline level the accident date is going to be higher.

The Chinese MA60 has a high accident rate but is designed for third world operators whose maintenance and pilot training isn't something to aspire to and who operate it to marginal airports with limited aids. If British Airways operated the type on UK domestic flights there would be far fewer problems.

An aircraft as old as the AN-12 lacks modern safety equipment and is likely flown by dodgy companies. Time for its retirement.
