With a positive ID the the passenger manifest is a good place to start. It's how we know where Atta, Al Shehi, Hanjour and Jarrah were sitting on 9/11 for starters.

(Although IIRC (FA) Betty Ong relayed some of this info which corroborated the manifest from AA11).

Wouldn't row 9 have been near the front whereas most of the discussion here lies around the back end. Doesn't tally.
Always a chance, of course, that she was in the rear end toilet?

@lowbank Kulverstukas posted the manifest - post #1135
@funfly that's what got me, either something happen near row 9, or she was to the rear or in a different seat

toddler found 25 miles away

seat plan and manifest on page 57 of this thread or here ????????????? ???????? ????? 9268 ???????? ???? ???????? ??????????

the little girl and her parents had a row of 3 in 9DEF just in front of door 2R
although she was infant age she had a seat and may have just used the normal lap strap?
there were no infants mentioned on the manifest only child

seat belt signs could well have been off by then so mum may have had toddler on her lap or she was asleep already or they had gone to the loo - 2 down the back one in the front

Assuming a toddler was found 20 odd Km from the main wreckage area, it would imply that the fuselage was open. Would it be possible if such an opening caused a section to “peel off” at speed and hit a HS causing it to warp, flex in the air stream until fatigue causes it to break off? If that would be the case more material should be found even further away.

Various comments about the commercial load seem to envisage this was just some mainstream scheduled flight. It wasn't. It was a holiday charter.

Everyone on board is known to be on a package holiday from around St Petersburg, and going home.

Such charters carry very little, or more commonly, no freight.

Why do we keep coming back to possible hydraulic leak on rudder? ... It is De-icing fluid residue
Possibly because some very experienced engineers above said that's what it was. Even in Russia, they are unlikely to have deiced the aircraft over the recent summer period, when the photos were taken.

Bad maintenance rumors

source: http://theaviationist.com/2015/11/02...etrojet-crash/
Petrovic Dusan • 2 days ago
As I lived & traveled in Russia, I was again and again warnexe by close russian friends never to fly with Russian air-companies, due to safety issues, even in Aeroflot (which I find excessive, and I use Aeroflot often).
However, in forums in Russian, ex employees of Metrojet have terrible story about "Julia" ( this is how they named the Airbus 321 that crashed),and how scared they all were for last 6months flying it.
Nobody received salary for last 2 months, except about 20€ (twenty) in August.
In spring "Julia" returned back to the airport from which it started the trip due to safety issue.
Many things inside did not work well, (toilets flushed themselves, de-hermeticasation (?i can't translate the term) alarms turned of and on.
Because of ruble descend (from 40 for 1€ to 80 for 1€)air travel became expensive, and people were ready to risk; in the same time, air companies had less and less profit, so....it was the road to disaster.
With previous occurrences of air accidents in Russia in mind, I guess this was the reason, not Isis

It's plausible that her mother was feeding her, or changing her, in a toilet compartment.

Rest in peace little soul

Has any mention been made so far of passengers' mobile phones (cameras) and their potential to show either the beginning of an incident or something else relevant - I imagine this will be looked into, along with everything else.

One is to assume that if the poor little girl was expelled from the aircraft then her body would show clues about whatever caused her expulsion.

If she and her parents are not accounted for, how many other passengers are still being looked for? (This is a grim thought. )

From what the articles have mentioned, 40 to 60 seem to be missing

It is very likely she was in the rear toilet. The first thing you do with a ten month old toddler after the ordeal of check-in, security, boarding and take-off is to go change the nappies as soon as the belts sign goes off.

andrasz Kulvastukas

i go with that too - mum sees the one loo at the front is busy and nips down the back
which are normally bigger anyway....

this tragic find puts a very personal and very sad feel on this accident

we often assume Russians are not a very warm race but on the contrary the
people we have seen sadly lost in this holiday jet crash all puts it into a very
sad event for such lovely people never coming home again

to the Russian chap on here and the aviaforum Kulvastukas please pass
my heartfelt wishes to all the families and friends of the passengers and crew in St Petersburg affected by the tragedy

Now what will happen to an airframe without HS? Clue it was strong enough to break the fuselage into 4 main pieces, Cockpit, forward fuselage over wings, rear fuselage to read doors, remains of empenage minus HS and rudder.

It is the HS breaking away that needs to be explained in this incident.
agree most tail sections are found relatively in tact, and yes I think the departure of the HS is key!

I think it went in two sections the left (already found), did it stress break (unlikely) something hit it engine/TP ?, then still to be found which might give a clue is the the stump of the left HS and whole of the right HS.

Evening Standard article

This was published today. I offer it up for whatever it may be worth (recall that the Evening Standard is a sister publication of the Daily and Sunday Mail - which isn't necessarily a wholehearted recommendation).

Some private schools have a 2 week half term so could be.

I have a feeling that HMG might have over-reacted on this one - or security and intelligence were just looking for a reason to expose SSH as a security issue. We'll see though- I might have to eat humble pie.
