It's a very small door or something is misreported

He said it was taken away by police in a box that was about one foot (30cm) square.

From Sky regarding last find.
He said that although it is not known if the object is from the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight or from a Boeing 777, it had Chinese and Malaysian writing on it and was thought to be from the inside of an aircraft.

He said it was taken away by police in a box that was about one foot (30cm) square.
Could be from a boat.
No shortage of small hatches, perhaps a cupboard door (or part of) from the galley which may have dual language instruction on a placard?

If it's that small it could be an inspection hatch made of composite material.

2nd Aug Debris at La Reunion

Here's a picture of this morning's piece of debris (or at least one of them).

There have been reports of three "finds"
The accounts of the last two finds may be being mixed up.

http://ab.co/1OWzKi7

An AFP news agency photographer saw police collect one piece of debris, measuring about 100 square centimetres, on Sunday morning.

Police placed the debris — which had a sort of handle partially covered by leather and inscribed with two ideograms — in an iron case.
This is likely to be the item pictured in the previous post that was put in a small flight case.
(Perhaps the remains of a passenger bag?)
ABC go on to elaborate that the item reported as a door was 70cm in length, there are no pictures of this item to date. I notice a white strip of metal in the above picture that could be 70cm in lenght, so perhaps the report of the door relates to the "handle" debris?

Also on Sunday, a man handed police a piece of debris measuring 70 centimetres, guessing it was part of a plane door.

Pontius I understand that but Reunion was a predicted location for debris from 7th arc, and it probably has 50-100 beachcombers, informing everyone would take couple of days, same is valid for every island around.

This way we might have crucial evidence burned and lost forever.

Infuriating.

An itinerant on Reunion who wanders the beach sweeping up trash and disposing of it, is quite unlikely to have ever been on an airplane, and there's little reason for him to recognize a scrap or part of an airplane. As for the luggage 'full of possessions', I'm sure he sorted through them for anything of value before burning it. Either items such as identity papers/passport, money, jewelry, etc. were in the luggage and he is now not saying, or he found nothing of value.

A kettle? Could be.

It certainly doesn't look like a part of a plane. Or luggage for that matter.

Quite, SaturnV. Beachcoming is just that, bits of plastic are bits of plastic. Why should parts of an aircraft seat be obvious to someone who has never been on an aircraft?

Incredible as it may seem to some, there are people who've never flown.

Suitcases and debris from ships must be a regular event. Some deliberately thrown overboard. Beachcombers would not think twice about a suitcase or other small items. An international traveller walking the beach would look with different eyes.

2nd Aug Debris at La Reunion - Boiling Pot/Kettle

Interflug, I think you are spot on.

I suspect that what we are looking at is an early version of one of these:

Purely speculation:

A claim on the Guardian news site that the characters could say xingyi
Xing Yi could be a personal monogram, as there were several "Xing" on the passenger list for MH370, including one whose son's name is Xing Yi

With so much IO flotsam washing up against this island, it could of course be from anywhere...

What is actually the reason that the large search effort that has taken place in the last several months has been concentrating on the area south of the "Broken Ridge"?
(Sorry if this has been answered before, but I must have missed this bit of information somehow)

Hi,

It's because the Inmarsat bible (the pings received by their satellite)
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

Further information: Analysis of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 satellite communications
In March 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared with 239 passengers and crew en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. After turning away from its planned path and disappearing from radar coverage, the aircraft's satellite data unit remained in contact with Inmarsat's ground station in Perth via the IOR satellite. The aircraft used Inmarsat's Classic Aero service, which does not provide explicit information about the aircraft's location. Analysis of these communications by Inmarsat and independently by other agencies determined that the aircraft flew into the southern Indian Ocean and was used to guide the search for the aircraft.

Why is everyone soooo excited about the appearance of MH370 debris upon an island within the Indian Ocean? It HAD to appear at sometime or another!

Leave those folk at rest.

If nothing else, it shows it isn't buried in a mountain somewhere.

I fail to understand why the search authorities apparently failed to even consider the reward system to coastal dwellers - apart from the fact that it fell into the "too-hard" basket - or that they were concerned that they would be overwhelmed with subsistence dwellers hopefully offering up every piece of flotsam found.
After seeing the dreadful amount of flotsam and jetsam on the Cocos-Keeling Islands (mostly reported coming from Indonesia), I could understand the authorities concerns in that point.
Onetrack you are giving your own - correct - explanation here. The reward you suggested (1000-5000 USD) is more than many people living on the SIO shores make per year. You'd be inundated with claims, every kettle and piece of scrap metal would have become an airplane part. What should have been done, of course, is to make the coastal populations, especially those who are professionally engaged with the ocean (fishermen, beachcombers, etc) aware of the possibility of debris washing up. Mr Ferrier would probably not have burned suitcases and seat(s) had he been aware of the potential importance. It appears that no such alert was sent out anywhere.
