Thumbs up bmi Regional ERJ-145 Engine Fire

I can't believe this incident has not yet appeared on these forums. Very dissapointed!

This week a bmi Regional Embraer 145 on the Glasgow to Manchester route suffered an engine fire on the SID out of GLA at around 3000 feet. Engine was shut down and a/c returned to the airport. Apparently, there was a big hole in side of engine cowling where starter had gone AWOL.

The crew had done an outstanding job and made this very rare occurance a non-event. Hats off to them!

This was the first ever (me thinks!) engine failure/fire on an Embraer 145 model aircraft. So everyone and their dog has come to have a look: Embraer, CAA, etc.

Anyone know any more?

Ya heard this unfold on the RT didnt think much of it but seems to be quite serious, was in the BRAL hangar and certainly seems to be pretty intense the work that is being carried out on it.

Cool

Having been the driver of said aeroplane at the time I'm not sure if I agree with Deek's last comment.....
I was wondering how long it would be before this appeared here- it's taken a full 2 days longer than I expected!
All in all, a great deal easier than the same exercise in the sim, but not one I'm anxious to repeat. Maximum points for cool go to the pax who only put down his newspaper when we got back on stand!

Very good job! They should shorten you all's recurrent sim training by at least an hour next time, having shown "real-world" proficiency.
