UPS9 pilot arrested at EPWA

Polish news reported a cargo pilot arrested at EPWA on Wednesday, after security officer noticed 'smell of alcohol' during routine crew control. Breathanalyser test revealed 1,8 per mill of alcohol in exhaled air. Pilot has been arrested and questioned by prosecutor today. Airline and flight number were not mentioned, but the only cargo flight operating from Warsaw to Shanghai is UPS and the flight number is UPS9. They operate MD-11 on that route. Wondering what the next steps will be given he is an US citizen.

barti01- UPS Pilot arrested at EPWA

According to News from Poland, it is said that "the pilot concerned was a US pilot of UPS Cargo based in Kentucky, USA, stopped by Guards at Warsaw Airport. When police arrived all the three crew of the cargo plane were breathalised and tested twice for alcohol intoxication. The first reading was 1.6% and the second reading was 1.8%. The pilot concerned was neither arrested nor taken to a sobering-up station because the Polish law allows for being at the airport under the influence of alcohol.

However, the offending pilot is to be questioned by Warsaw Prosecutors today."

It was further stated that UPS Cargo Operator, was the largest Warsaw cago operator for year 2008, USA; and is currently furloughing 300 pilots between year 2010 - 2011 in a bid to cut costs despite a 13% profit in year-on-year profits in 2010 (jb).
