Capt PPRuNe

Could you please give us the new IP and we could just type that in our browser instead of the domain name.

Having the IP address won't work for forums as all links start www.pprune.org/ You could if you were desperate replace www.pprune.org with the new IP address for every page...

...But I won't give out the IP address as I don't want any extra network traffic on the new machine when we transfer the many Gigabytes of data across, unpack it, check it, install it,....

A little quiet please.

Braced by a largactol, librium and drambuie shandy Danny has just been lowered into his immersion tank by his brain care specialist and personal masseuse.

Depending on when he regains control of his motor functions this delicate operation should begin in about 15 hours from now. We would appeal for departing Manchester traffic off 24L/R to be especially enthusiastic with the noise abatement power reductions.

It would be extremely helpful if ATC could see to it that PIA take off downwind to the east so as not to shatters His Airship's zen like calm. Those curvature of the earth climbouts can be most distracting.

Consultations with local government bodies has achieved agreement that church bells will ring out as the new IP address spreads through routers across the world.

Everyone here at the Towers has prepared for this the best we can - only time will tell.

'We may be some time.'

Part one of the exercise doesn't affect the present server. The new one needs operating system, management software, RAID configuration and bulleting board intallation.

Only when that's all done, dusted and satisfactory will the bit you're not looking forward start.

Sorry if losing PPRuNe is not your idea of a nice weekend but it works best for us. Traffic is actually at its lightest. Lots of regulars working and others at least attempting to have a life. Conversely though it seems to be the time when a lot of folks go 'exploring' and discover us as registrations always peak over the weekend.

The other reason is that Danny disappears to the colonies at the beginning of next week for a bit of a lie down - it will be well deserved methinks.

Robin, if you can still get a message into the tank (and Danny is still conscious) please wish him - from his acolytes on the BA forum - a safe journey through the Stargate. We will be waiting for him on the other side. I have briefed all our MAN crews for today and tomorrow regarding noise abatement.

Hope he has a better journey than we did...............

Cheers BOAC,

Will pass on your message. Presently struggling with a couple of minor glitches. Saturday morning's a bit of a sod for finding dilithium crystals and a flesh coloured bicycle repair outfit though.

We'll improvise.

OK folks, we're back in business.

There are still a few tweaks to be done (such as setting the timezone!) but all in all it's looking pretty good!

Cool

So . . . uhhh . . . what happened?

What's the difference now? Everything seems exactly the same to me? What's all this about IP adresses and improved servers and things?

Keep up the good work! I still don't see a difference!
