Give it a 'Break' with your P.C correctness,
We should all be relieved that It was not as bad as it could have been!
And the CAA are 'perfect' are they - Remember Emerald Airways??

Had the exact same thing happen to me (minus the birds, it was LZR turbulence at 1000ft and full power T/O plus Climb2 thrust due to reverser locked out.)
Half a dozen bangs with some yaw, EGT pegged at 912 (that is as far as it goes IIRC due to 912 being the highest Binary number the computer can cope with) and about 20+ mins to do checks, liase with ATC and agents plus have a nice cup of Tea.
My strongest memory of it (1999) was the absolute quiet as I walked out of the flightdeck door, after landing to get to door L2 before the seatbelt sign was switched off. Strong sensation of "all eyes watching me".
I thought I was going to be famous. A week later the Cardiff crew went off on a night flight to GRO and I was instantly forgotten.
(BTW, went to see B.N. over the weekend. Looks fine and is enjoying his retirement)

...Funnily I have noted several Herons recently in the area.....
Actually I don't believe for a minute that two, known specie birds were ingested into the engine.
On scene reports are notoriously inaccurate until/unless an expert from the manufacturer has examined the engines

Plenty of amateur ornithologists around EGCC.

There are always bits of feathers and wotnot wedged in the fan/outlet guide vanes etc and plenty of interested parties have a shufty as soon as it gets back to the gate, whether they be engineers, pilots, baggage handlers or bird-scarers , all have a good local knowledge too.
Well done to all involved very professional job.

I just loved the comment of the spotter "oh s**t"
An excellent video is on utube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfXBK...elated&search=
which clearly shows one bird at about 30ft just after the rotate.

Excellent video though although I'm not sure about the legality of the ATC audio alongside.
Interesting to see/hear the misfiring engine, useful to be aware of it all in case I'm ever sitting next to an engine doing similar tricks. Presumably the delay to shutdown is due to the crew doing everything in a set order.

SOP's for single engine failure
Can anyone tell me the SOP for single engine failure?
At what point, if any, would the autopilot be on, and would there be any autopilot assistance for a single engine landing or would this whole scenario have been manually flown?
