Dear BA,
Matthew 7v5:
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye
I'll take on the competition anyday. It's my management I can't beat!

Got slightly lost once at LHR and that was in daylight. Never got lost at night at LHR due to 'the Greens'. Just wish the system worked so well in bright sunshine. Enough said.
Cool as a moosp

Keep the "follow the greens" system. It really is the best I have seen in 30-something years of flying.
It was developed from the switch systems of British Railways, (yes before all these rail track chappies) so had a good pedigree even when it was first introduced.
The BA people (probably not the line pilots who use the system) have a very small problem and they wish to fix it with a total disruption to the rest of the worlds London bound aviation. An acute case of technical arrogance.

Landed at LHR on Saturday night after not having been there for a few months. The "greens" made our taxi off 09L, around all the roadworks, to our parking on RS a really simple task.
This is an excellent system, please don't change it!

GOOD GRIEF, LISTEN.
NOBODY, NOT EVEN BA, WANT TO GET RID OF THE GREENS !!!!!!!!!
The problem was with a staff shortage months ago. Everbody agrees its a great system. Any e-mail anybody reads to the contary is ill-informed, mistaken or stiring. Do we really need another 100 posts of 'keep the greens, / bash BA'.

Super Stall,
RUBBISH. The e-mail was confirmed by SENIOR NATS management, who are open to staff about the subject. Check your facts please!!!!
The response level has been tremendous. WE BELIEVE ITS A GREAT SYSTEM and we are able to put a good case to management that although the been counters want to save money, crews overwhelmingly (and ATCO's) believe it ADDS TO FLIGHT SAFETY!

Message for Journalists
There has been almost unanimous support for the ´greens´on the thread. I cannot understand why the whole question has not made either the newspapers or radio/television.
What has happened to the respected (!) Journos who lurk here? Suely they are not doing their job properly whilst this important item goes unreported.
Suppose for just one minute that the unthinkable happened post any removal of the system. I am sure they would be up in arms about the removal of such a system and pointing fingers once the penny dropped.
Come on, Journos, give us and every fare-paying passenger a hand.
Remember Tenerife North?

Interesting...however I think that the average self loading freight would not understand the difference. It also appears there are NO decent journalists around and this story would be mis represented and scare mongered. We MUST remember that this is a proposal and MAY not happen. The idea of the thread was to gauge opinion from flight crew( and Tug drivers) so we could go forward to flight crews formally if so required and put a strong flight safety case to management and SRG.

Just stumbled across this thread: can't believe it even exists, the greens are such a patently good idea. I fly for BA; sadly this attitude from the management doesn't surprise me. Every day we shake our heads in disbelief at the company.

I'll just reiterate OPNOT's point.
At MAN - there is a lighting system in place - but there is no dedicated member of staff to operate it unless LVP's are in force, during single runway ops. Then the 24L controller becomes the lighting chap. There are no dedicated staff for this position.

The bean counters should remember the phrase, its beter to be late in this life than early in the next. They will be talking about replacing london ATC with the plonkers at RAK and CMN soon.
