Thumbs up Building work set to start at LTN part 2

I would love to know the thinking behind the decision of the administrators to close the original thread after just 3 hours before more than one person got a chance to add any comments to a news item.. .. .To reply to Loggerhead yes there is another floor above the new check-in area. The original thinking was that once the passenger output reached around 8 million a passenger staircase and lifts would be built to connect the 2nd floor. The second floor would then become the departure lounge complete with shops. The airport still has planning permission for two piers with airbridges that were to connect to the new terminal but never built. Once the second floor was opened up the original terminal, which is now airside would be demolished. . .. .TBI, which has taken over the running of the airport, have stated that the present buildings will cope with a throughput of 10 million. The new building work with the holding lounges will increase this total. . .. .It is interesting that the owners of the airport, which is still the council stated that the new terminal would allow up to 5 million passengers to use Luton. As this was only 1.5 million more than the airports old capacity it was decided by the government that no public enquiry was needed. By the time other hostile councils discovered what was the true figure the terminal was finished and open.
