ANKARA, September 19 (Itar-Tass) - An aircraft of Air Adriatic Airlines on the Moscow-Istanbul flight rolled on Monday beyond the end of the runway because of a malfunctioning brake system, the Anadolu Ajansi news agency has reported.

The plane, carrying 164 passengers, could stop only after engaging the emergency brake system, rolling 300 meters beyond the end of the runway of the Istanbul Ataturk Airport.

Eleven of 12 chassis wheels went out of order as a result. According to early reports no one was injured in the incident, however, there was panic among the passengers.

The runway has been closed for planes because of the incident.

Hmmm ... at Istanbul I wouldn't (from memory) fancy running off the end of 06 or 36R with the steep scarp slopes.... I presume it landed on 18L/R or 24 (uncommon).

Jacdec made a fine table of what they have in their records about IST:

It's a Tu-154 (registered LZ-LCU) operated by Avialinii 400 as flight 9649, Moscow Vnukovo-Istanbul Ataturk.

On approach the aircraft received indications of a hydraulic problem. Emergency braking applied, undercarriage suffered slight damage.

Statement from A400: "Passengers perceived only a little discomfort from the more-intensive-than-usual braking."

Nothing about overrunning the runway...
