President's 757 in trouble
Argentine President Nestor Kirchner's 757 was obliged to divert to El Palomar airforce base immediately after take off from Aeroparque yesterday. There was apparently a fuel pump problem in the port engine which led to much crashing, banging and some flames and the decision to land immediately. If I am not mistaken this is the fourth aerial mishap he has had since coming to power. Full story for readers of Spanish here

Another mishap for Kirchner
For the second time in a month and for the fifth time since he became President Kirchner has had a problem with the aircraft he was travelling. After last month's emergency landing in the 757 -and subsequent findings by RR that neither engine was in a fit state for use - he was yesterday obliged to abandon "Tango 10" after the crew realised there was something wrong with the landing gear. He eventually got to Rosario - for the International Spanish Language Conference - an hour and a half late in a jet belonging to the government of the Province of Buenos Aires.

Jorge N,
Conspiracy theories I'd pour cold water on. But FAA/RR relations? Perhaps a slight tendency to arrogance? Having raised the issue, what do you think?
Incidentally, I thought the coverage both in La Nacion and the more recent article you just posted, very reasonable, nothing to batter journos over the head with. But there's a Deep Throat in there somewhere, for sure!
Saludos

Well, Kirchener is not exactly Mr. Popularity with some of the more Jurassic elements in the armed forces. And he put an end to the orgy of corruption that surrounded the running of the Presidential jet in Menem's time. So lots of enemies in a position to do him harm... I'd watch my back if I was him

And now they are thinking of flogging Tango 01.

What would a reasonable price for a 1992 757 complete with barber's chair in the presidential suite?
