Thumbs down Airways pilot's dirty secret.

With all of ALPA National's talk of "Strength from Within", it is important to note the following sad commentary on "union brotherhood".. .. .There was a seniority list wide referendum earlier this year US Airways. At issue was whether or not the Airways pilot group would extend COBRA insurance payments for a year, to pilots who were about to be furloughed. Consider the following statistics.. .. .Out of over 6,000 seniority list pilots, only 2000 voted on the matter. Out of that amount, 1300 of those who voted in the affirmative were pilots who were about to be furloughed. Of the remaining 700 who cared to vote, (out of over 5000 who were elegible), THE MAJORITY VOTED AGAINST extending COBRA insurance payments to their brother and sister pilots.. .. .That's the dirty secret they don't want the world to know. Out of sight, out of mind.. .. .With behavior like this, it is no wonder that the airlines who the Airways MEC floated the "Jets for Jobs" proposal to, chose not to accept it.

Most of the other major airline crews are paying an assessment to cover the cost of these benefits for their furloughed co-workers...sad bunch at airways these days,it would appear..

Also voted in here at UAL...don't know the exact figures, just signed the deduction card. Going with few of the Foster's Bitters will be good for me.

And if everybody had agreed to work reduced hours for a while, then no furloughs be neccesary.. .. .Have seen greed among us before: Screw the new guys, I want my entire $15,000.00 paycheck.. .Put the new guys on the street, they can afford it.. .Yeah right.. .. .Oh well, that is life in the junior lane.. .. . <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
