Already fly by wire aircraft are much simpler to operate
When all is going well, they are definately easier.
However when it goes pear shaped the complexities of the auto flight system, the multiple interelations between complex modes, and the design of keeping the pilot one stage removed from the "loop" results in a reduction in SA. It demands a need for modern pilots to fully understand poorly designed software, and badly designed interfaces.
Glass cockpits, and FBW have created more problems than they have solved. One step forward, two steps back.
IMHO.

Didn't a Canadian 767 suffer this embarrassing situation a few years ago when the ground crew and pilots confused pounds, US Gallons and Litres.
I read a article about that one in Readers Digest and thensaw the TV film based on it (all in the same week odly enough).
Lots of glass on the flight deck of a 767 I dare say.

Congratulations Tudor - even if it was partly due to Shep
Odd how the fact that the pilot has been cleared made negligible impact on the papers this morning compared to the previous copverage (not)

I was at the court and heard the case from beginning to end. I've posted a new thread saying exactly why the case was stopped.
If anyone's interested it's called "Fuel crash trial THIS is what happened". It;s in the Private Flying forum.
Real eye opener about how the CAA behaves when they prosecute you.
