Panama Picture
Well I can own up that the lady in the Panama picture pouring a beer is my mother !!!!!!!! Mary Strange ( I was 3 at the time)
A picture from Warri - with a liitle guy glaring at the camera white shirt and grey slacks - Claude Pujol.
The Eket picture was of Jeremy Wright(RIP) giving the "Major" the 9mm finger.

Hiller 12E Recovery.
Thanks to Larry Coram for this anecdote.
From a picture provided by Don Strange's wife we can date the pictures to March 1964.
Hiller 12E, 5N-AGC, piloted by Ken Smith forced landed in secondary growth just short of mature trees due to an engine failure caused by a con rod big end cap bolt failure which was prevalent on the Lycoming V0540 at that time. The area had to be cleared of dense bush to enable the Widgeon to land.
Larry with his team dismantling the Hiller into manageable pieces to enable transport by the Widgeon to Warri Airstrip. Back of photo: "LHC in his smart hat, I recall it was bloody hot! Vitus and Raffles are in the picture."
Widgeon 5N-ABV with the Hiller tailcone securely strapped in the cabin and ready for lift out.
The Twin Pioneer (Bristows) 5N-ABQ had transported a replacement engine and other parts to Warri where the Hiller was reassembled and flown back to Port Harcourt by Ken Smith with Larry Coram as passenger.
Job well done. Ded.

Post #1249 ... The Huffco Bar, Badek '79 ... a youngish Lester Koppe (far LHS) .... just recently retired from 10 yrs at Abu Dhabi Aviation (deserves a medal for that feat alone!) .... believed now to be domiciled in Vietnam .... a nice bloke.
And Barry Asquith ... for some reason a familiar name ... trying to work out where I met him .... I must be getting old .... (hard drive is full ?).

12E Recovery
The last photo shows a Twin Pin and a what i believe to be a 12E4 not the 12E shown in previous pictures(sorry i am a spotter) you can tell by the double doors in the last picture.

The site where the China Beach was has been redeveloped and the area is now occupied by a Starbucks.
The whole square has changed.
Rumour has it Bristows has a small satellite operation somewhere north of Watford.....
At its peak, approximately, 45 medium / large helicopters
were operating out of Aberdeen averaging 50 - 60 flights
per day and a record of 86 flights one Christmas.
Around 28 in this pic...........
In 1989, the Bristow passenger terminal was handling around 40,000 per month.

Aberdeen 1972
First attempt at posting a pic. This was taken when there was only one hangar at Aberdeen with G-AZRF and possibly G-AZNE on a gearbox change outside the hangar. We used to operate from wartime lollipops down the peritrack and Davie Parker had a message bike to carry the tool boxes to the helicopters.

PH Crew 1976
Some of the local crew at Port Harcourt in the seventies, the guy in the status symbol dust jacket was lambert Abali. Lambert was well regarded by the BHL management, as he stayed at his post during the Biafran war, and looked after some of the aircraft that had been left behind when the expatriates were forced to leave.

PF Crew 1976
The guy on the Right in the white overalls was Ben, he was by far the best local, and was as good with his hands as any expatriate. We lost him however for about three months, when he was convinced that his stomach trouble was caused by a Black magic curse that somebody had put on him. We got him back when my wife took a driver, and went out to his village, and told him there was no such thing as Black Magic, and if he did not come back ,he and his family would starve.
He was so impressed that we had taken time out to look into his welfare, that he came back, and we never had any more trouble with him.
Nigeria was like that, probably still is.
