A Name For The R55 ?
So we have decided that Frank is building a diesel powered heli, so lets give him some ideas for an original name for the beast, I'll kick it off with -
1/ after the Raven here comes the MULE. 2/ R55 D-Series. Also there could be a new meaning for a chip detector (when using cooking oil for fuel to save even more money) No prizes for the best suggestion but you never know Frank may be watching and may even use it !! Loose Nut. |
How about the "Duck".
It's what I keep hearing people shout when one is flying overhead! := |
Flying Tractor?
|
From the Land Of the Grand Canyon and the many Native Indians Tribes who reside there. It has been translated from the Ancient tribal language as:
"Bird that makes Bigger Debris Field when wings get slow." |
Gentlemen, I give you - the R55 JetBlender.
|
A new name, eh?
Well, with all the bird references conjured up by the Raven, and the Raven II, I thought something combining the bird element with the diesel newness might work well.
So I came up with 'Diesel Feather' Trouble is, arguably the world's best diesel wizards - those guys in Halifax, UK - got there first. (see: www.feather-diesel.co.uk) Coincidence, or is Frank's new fledgling already in advanced stages of development in northern England? You be the judge! :} |
Well according to someone on justhelicopters.com forum who was at the factory last week there is an aircraft with a C20B mounted in it, that looks somewhat like a Schweizer 333. Apparently. The engine is mounted similar to that in the 500. Apparently.
Maybe it's not a diesel after all. |
I hear they wanted to call it the R-55 Nail , as in the final nail in the coffin for the jet ranger ! but it was scrapped when they realised what the version with the floats would be called .
|
If you say the letter 'R' and then view each '5' as an 'S' the R55 quickly becomes the:
.........ARSE The Robinson R-55 Arse? Think it'll catch on? Hope not. |
How about the R55 "DODO"??
|
It will probably end up with some name like the "eagle" or something else equally unimaginative. I won't really care what its called as long as it doesn't look as ugly as the raven.
|
R55 Eagle sounds good to me. dont know why. i heard that they are building an 7 (1+6) seat turbine, has a fenestron and all. this is from a reliable source but don't go blasting it around the internet. the des was supposed to be Robinson 800 but I don't know what it is now. And it's going to be a twin but use new williams engines so fuel consumption will be like 50% of the jet ranger, something mad like that. I think the engines were originally for the eclipse.
|
this is from a reliable source but don't go blasting it around the internet Anyway, typically how long can something like a new heli be kept under wraps? I'm guessing that one day Frank isn't going to say "right, heres my new helicopter, all tested and certified, any orders?" - are we talking about several years from the official announcement of a new design until delivery of the first machines? Subjective, I know... |
sup yo i get what ya mean but i meant if it was just kept on pprune maybe it wouldnt go into a big rumour and get put all over the place. critism taken though thanks!
cirrus kept their new plane pretty much under wraps till oskosh, released the name a few weeks prior. be the way to create a rush of attention wouldn't it? it could all be just a potential idea that may not be going ahead but if I heard it I reckon someone else probably did too. anyone? |
