Fire Fighting Unmanned Drones

Got this podcast on my feed yesterday:

The company's website: https://www.rain.aero/

I am a student pilot still with interest in one day reaching the firefighting operations ( As a lot of other pilots). I do not know how the industry mechanics function in detail but I would like to know from experienced pilots how big of a threat this will be?

PS. If this has been discussed in another threat will appreciate the link as I could not find it.

great weekend to everyone

G’day, it is a real threat. How far away is that? Nobody really knows. This sort of tool has a lot of application for night fire fighting ops.

There have been numerous VTOL business unfortunately fold lately so that uncertainty may stifle some development in the industry. Some of the operators are a long way down that road, for example the linked video above.

I fly fires and not sure how it would be a threat for most of what we do. Everyone knows helicopters don’t put out fires we always need guys on the ground for that. Our first priority when finding a fire is getting the crew in so they can circle it with the hoses. We will then put the bucket on and provide support if needed. If you were bucketing on a big campaign fire you need to be carrying the water capacity of a medium otherwise you are just getting in the way. I’m sure they will get there one day but not soon
