Recording Audio with GoPro Hero 4

Hi guys

Just wanted to see if there is anyone who could help me choose an adapter for recording all radio and cockpit speech within an Robinson R22 on a GoPro Hero 4? I'm filming every flight for my Egg Beater helicopter blog and would like to supply my followers with audio during flight. I believe the headsets are Bose noise cancelling A20's if that helps. I found a website that I think sells the right adapter but can't post the link due to a lack of prior posts. I'm sure there is someone out there who has done this before!? Please advise.

Something like this should work with a Hero 4, just make sure the one you get works with the GoPro you have. You plug this adapter into the heli plug and your own headset into the female connection on the adapter and it picks up everything running through the comms when you plug the mini-USB into the GoPro to record. If you get a version with a heli plug it will be a lot less work to fit the setup in an R22. I used to attach the GoPro to the RH headset hanger in the R22 and it captured the whole instrument panel and outside cockpit view, very useful for debriefing after the instructional flight as well.

Or you can verY simply buy a standard mini usb lapel type mic and slip it into you Bose earcup, it picks up all the audio, simples!

Thanks to you both. I had seen Lude-og’s suggestion on a UK site for about £60. Didn’t hear anything from the suppliers to see if it would work with the set up so really appreciate that! Will look into this at a later stage though when I’m doing my hour building and recording longer flights but for now I’m going to save some pennies and by the lapel mic for a £5! Will let you know if it works. You can find my blog at eggbeater .co. uk where I upload all my flight videos too! Thanks again

Another recommendation for the lapel mic in the earcup. I had to try a couple of different ones to get one that worked, and worked well, with my Hero 5. You can also put it in a spare headset that you tape the earcups together and stow on a seat if you don't want the cord running down your shoulder.

Also do some experiments before you go flying hoping for it to record... I know on the Hero 5 the external mic doesn't work unless you power up the camera before hitting record.

Excellent thanks for the recommendation. Lapel mic should arrive tomorrow and as per your suggestion I purchased two different brands for less than £15. Unfortunately I won’t be flying until next week now but will update you with the results. Thanks again
