Surely the default position for good
Ahem... Surely it is only good safe aviation practice that if your left hand isn't engaged in any other necessary activity it's default resting position is resting on or very close to the collective? |
OK, here we go for Old Dawg:
A young Indian (native Murrican?) asks his father, "Father (that was what he called him) how do we Indians name our children?" "Well, son, when the papoose is born, the father is led, blindfolded, into the forest. When he removes the blindfold, he must name his child after the first thing he sees, like Screaming Eagle, Standing Bear, Rain in the Face, and so on. Why do you ask, Two Dogs F****ing?" |
I'm sure there are as yet undiscovered tribes in the depths of the Amazon rain forest who know that joke :)
However I get Ol Dogs point about power awareness in potential icing conditions to help you assess possible ice accretion. I know of 2 incidents where Sea Kings ran out of power in level flight due to icing and were fortunate to pop out VMC in valleys following an uncontrolled descent. Small helicopter with low inertia head and inexperienced pilot = keep hand glued to collective:ok: |
Thanks for the responses, all!

Just be careful that you don't stiff arm the collective and get PIO.
