Golfing in a Cabri....
A little bit of a different question re the Cabri.....has anyone ever thrown their golf clubs in one and gone and had a round? I was told that the baggage compartment, was designed to do just that?!
|
It's a bit difficult swinging the club in the hover.....

You may be thinking of the R66,...or at least an R44 Cadet? |
You would have to remove the passenger side controls and strap your bag into the passenger seat. You have enough room in the "baggage compartment" for a gym bag for shoes and such.
BTW, I've never measured it, but my Mark One Eyeball says that the total volume in the Cabri baggage area is commensurate with the volume underneath both R22 seats together. |
Thanks guys....I'm sure i read it somewhere....
So where do they go in an R44?! |
The compartment was never designed for a golf bag!! It was designed to take a "normal" size cabin baggage piece of luggage.
|
Just so you know -
1/ Remove dual controls and stow in forward space in console provided. 2/ Remove LH seat 3/ Observe limitations in RFM Seating The cabin features two high-energy absorbing, stroking-seats, improving occupants protection in case of a crash. Note : The left seat pan can be removed to carry large cabin luggage. Specific optional brackets are available to secure them. A cap is provided to cover cyclic root, as copilot controls are removed. Max weight 80 kg Happy days!! |

Can you imagine any design bureau of any respectable helicopter manufacturer, ever designing a helicopter to take golf clubs!!!! How financially suicidal would that be?
Thin end of the wedge if you ask me. |

Up here in the home of Golf we constantly had problems with golf clubs. With a JetRanger and LongRanger, charters from Edinburgh to Gleneagles etc, with four or five pax all with a set of clubs, needed a car to transport the clubs and luggage leaving the players frustrated waiting to play golf.

The helicopters were designed to save lives not to play at being millionaires

Outrageous - one spends zillions flying to Royal Birkdale only to find that upon arrival, one has left one's golf clubs behind.
Note to PA: rent me a bigger chopper next time. |

We designed a fix for that, creating the "Four Club Day", whereby the players could only bring 4 clubs of their choice (in small carry bags), and we would fly to 4 different golf courses, play 4 holes / 5 holes / 4 holes / 5 holes. It was good in concept, but the players would just be getting into the feel of the course and would then have to pack up and move on. After a few runs, we changed it to play 9 holes at 2 courses, but still only use 4 clubs.

You may use cargo baskets from Aerodesign in Canada. They are EASA certified.
