1982: More records by a Ppruner(s)...

This time it's Mr. Lappos in the spotlight. Congrats.

A good friend of mine who has since flown west, Vernon Albert, had 3 world records of his own in a S-76A. A couple of which I believe are still held. He once told me, of all the successes he had in his career, the number one topic brought up in new introductions were those flying records.

Onya Nick.

We Huey pilots used to challenge the Mirage fighter pilots to a race to 1000'. From a standing start outside the cockpit. None of them took us on.

An RAF Chinook crew took part in a "brakes off to 10,000 feet " race with an RAF fighter.

The Chinook pilot took off vertically and took the brakes off at 9,999 feet.

Huey's....Bah!

I always beat the Huey's to altitude and max speed.....while carrying one on a Sling under the Chinook.

The Chase Huey was forever asking us to slow down so they could catch up.

Huey Cobra's the same.

It was always a bit of good sport to overtake a Company sized formation of Huey's doing Combat Assaults or Troop Lifts (16-20 aircraft) and fly by them with a Huey dangling on a sling with one of your Gunners showing a Full Moon out the doorway.

You could outrun a Scout carrying one under a Puma.

After fitting flotation gear to a Wasp you could alway be sure that when you arrived in the bar all the beers were already lined up!
