SASless, you have only got to witness the utter clusterf***k which can be created by 2 SP qualified pilots who have been chucked into a helicopter together without a clue how to work as a team. It makes absolute sense that someone working multicrew for the first time has some training in SOPs, crew duties, emergency handling, briefings, callouts etc. It doesnt really matter whether its done by the operator or an ATO, but in order to get some level of standardisation and training quality, it is the most obvious answer that the authority should oversee it, and demand a particular content to the syllabus.

I think each authority within EASA does it differently. I cannot say for sure which ones charge and which ones dont. In fact, they dont all seem to agree on whether you need a separate SP and MP type rating in your licence, or whether the type rating is just for the type, and the details of SP/MP operational qualifications are recorded differently.
In fact, within the same country, you will often find that the same thing is recorded differently on the licences of 2 different pilots! The authorities are always 2 steps behind with helicopter stuff compared to the airline stuff which is their bread & butter. The next massive headache just revealing itself is how to record PBN qualifications. I dont think any 2 authorities will end up doing it the same!

I seem to note some conflict between your first response and your second one.

From your second one....it would appear relying upon the authorities to handle these issues is fraught with peril.

My view is that it seems right for the authorities to oversee things like this, but EASA itself ought to be better standardised. If you left it just to the operators, no doubt things would be even more variable.

An industry wide standard, endorsed by the authorities makes sense.

Each authority, and within each authority.....having varying standards, interpretations, and implementations does seem indefensible.



By the way....how much does it cost to have your License annotated by the CAA to document completion of the required training?

i don’t think they do - you provide evidence of having completed the MCC course. This can be a standalone course or it could be integrated into the actual type rating course. However - as shown above - different authorities may have different views.
