Saw this and had to chuckle - not one of your old mounts is it Crab :ok:

Amazing what you can do with one roll of 'arry black maskers:)

Where did you get that photo from Ned? Must have been from a Navy hangar somewhere:ok:

Now if you know the tail number, I can tell if I flew it or not.

Fareastdriver 13th April 2017 13:09

Looks as if it's in a museum.

TorqueOfTheDevil 13th April 2017 14:33

It's at Fleetlands (hence the Mk 5 next to it and the Mk 4 beyond, complete with yellow nose bay door...did it ever fly like that?).

Fareastdriver 13th April 2017 14:50

If it's anything like the temporary registrations I've had botch taped to my aircraft after they have been off loaded from a ship I would imagine that they would fall off after two minutes in the cruise.

Saw it pop up on a friends feed on Facebook. Here is another one with the number on it.

I'll have a trawl through the log books to see if I have flown 589.

jimf671 14th April 2017 14:20

If you look at the spotter pages, they have 589 at Lossiemouth most of the time. Also periods at Valley and St Mawgan.

[email protected] 14th April 2017 14:25

I only flew at Lossie on a Standards visit so it is more likely to be St Mawgan or Valley..

sycamore 14th April 2017 17:52

First flew `589` at CU on SKTU in Feb `80`;last flew it in Feb `84` at Finn.as last RAF helo I flew..back to FW...

Usual infantile FAA decoration.

[email protected] 15th April 2017 08:05

But you have to allow the junior practitioners in milSAR some leeway - if it makes them feel better by defacing the aircraft...........:E

[email protected] 15th April 2017 08:14

I flew 589 at Valley in 2004:ok:

Awww! There there, fad, it's all part of having something called a sense of humour you see...pointless explaining.

jimf671 15th April 2017 12:32

One of the FAA's most successful such efforts was the car sticker of the early 70s that found its way onto many thousands of vehicles, many of whose owners had no idea of its full meaning. It read "Fly Navy, Dig Army, Eat Crab".

Fareastdriver 15th April 2017 12:38

I am fully aware of the FAA's sense of humour. Especially where they marked up 100% profit on the beer that the Beverlys dropped for the ratings in Borneo; and it wasn't going to charity.

Sevarg 15th April 2017 15:09

Thought it was" Fly Navy, Sail Army, Eat Crab "

Fareastdriver 15th April 2017 15:51

In Belize it was Fly Navy, Sail Army, go and search for them all Air Force.

Georg1na 15th April 2017 17:05

FED - "Especially where they marked up 100% profit on the beer that the Beverlys dropped for the ratings in Borneo; and it wasn't going to charity."

Actually I was there and drank the beer and we raised many thousands for charity. There was a mark up for just that reason. (and it wasn't just for the ratings!!)
