Can anyone help please regarding how to enter the configuration mode on the VEMD of an AS350B3e please? it appears different to entering on an B3 or B3+ :confused: ours is set fuel in kgs, which is driving me nuts as everything is normally in litres; fuel in jerry cans, fuel truck, fuel bowser etc.:\

Well kg make sense, doesn´t it ?!
Or do you load passengers and cargo also in liters?
If you have indication in liters you have to calculate for mass and balance.
And it isn´t that hard to convert - either with rule of thumb, Jet Fueling App on the smartphone or with the old mechanical computer ;-)
(or make a note in your book - 100liters = 80 kg // 125 Liters = 100 kg // 20kg = 25 liters) the rest is easy ;-)

I spose it happens somewhere but litres are the only unit I've seen and used on the B3.

time changes and with the time, how things are done - unless you fly oldtimers.....
If the bird is fitted with a VEMD then its one of the newer breeds ;-)
And the policy is to make life easy for the pilot (who has to change some habbits, to get the benefits.....)
KG makes sense, cause thats the number you need if you want to know, how much you can load on the next stop, how much cargo to sling, limitations are kg (and altitude/temperature) based and nobody can calculate liters in kg when in stress and then get the total weight figured out - but every pilot should be able to get the empty weight painted in front of him, the displayed fuel KGs and his weight (and that of his passengers) together.
I know it´s hard for helicopter pilots to accept changes - but if it makes life easier - hey- helicopter pilots are lazy, otherwise they would work for a living :}

That was all I'd received. However, I just checked Keycopter and found that O.R.I.O.N is directly accessible from there. The SDS in question is a 3-page PDF:

A. General

The “CONFIG” mode integrates the taking into account of the optional facilities, the possibility of changing the unit system (4) (SI or IMPERIAL) and the possibility of changing the altitude unit (5) (Meter, Feet).

This mode is activated only when the VEMD detects the "engine stop" status and both lanes are operational.

To access this mode:
-- "OFF1" and "OFF2" are pressed to switch off both VEMD lanes,
-- "SELECT" and "ENTER" are pressed simultaneously and held,
-- "OFF1" and "OFF2" are pressed to activate both calculation lanes,

B. Modification Logic Inherent to the Contents of Configuration Pages

The selection of a modifiable field or possible selection in a configuration page is made with the "SELECT" push button. The modifiable field or possible choice is then displayed in reverse video (2).

The contents of the selected field are modified with keys "+" and "-".

The contents of each configuration page are validated with the selection of the "VALID" field (7) (with the "SELECT" push button) and the "ENTER" key. This memorises the new configuration values acquired.

The non-validation of the contents of a configuration page proceeds with the selection of the "ABORT" field (6) (with the "SELECT" key) and the "ENTER" key.

The return to "FLIGHT" mode proceeds with the stoppage of both calculation lanes (pressing "OFF1" and "OFF2").

Pretty sure that info is in Chp. 7 Systems Description of the RFM?

You can shortcut a lot of these procedures by holding the required keys before
you turn on the BAT Master and then no longer have turn lanes off, then on. i.e.

To enter MAINTENANCE MODE for FLIGHT REPORT etc.

HOLD RESET + SCROLL then BAT Master until RELEASE KEY appears.

CONFIG MODE

as above except HOLD SELECT + ENTER

do you work to Feet of Altitude or Metres, if you look at the explanation and small graphics box on the previous post it show Imp Gallons which I believe is 4.55 litres and then Feet for Alt, so a bit of a mix even in that sort of info...far better to stick with one. Imperial ..

it has worked from the day of the stone wheel, metrics are for Europeans and dont really work in good whole figures for quick mental maths

Ie Say again altitude...er 3677.36 mtrs..come on man whats that in feet..er wait a sec...er . er I think about 12066.3375 ft.

How do they measure Bombs, (not in BOOM quality) in Lbs( pounds)

Metric is not good for flying...stay Imperial it works and has for many years.!

Yaas sure we load kg's & yep we do a W&B at the start of each day :\ but then I dump fuel, here, there & everywhere in 20litre Jerry cans to plan high altitude rescues + return sector & it is so much easier to calculate the litres I need when it all comes in Jerries, or from a bowser, or from a truck :rolleyes:

The details to change the VEMD through 'configuration' mode is not in our B3e RFM :ooh:
