AS350 Corrected weight?

Can anyone explain what the corrected weight chart in the AS350 RFM is for? I understand that it is used to find the corrected way so that you may then go on and complete other chart like the rate of climb, but why can you not use normal gross weight of the aircraft?

Corrected weight is the AUW corrected by the density altitude.

CORRECTED WEIGHT= AUW x 1/Sigma

The EC-120 RFM has similar charts to calculate the rate of climb.
