Any substance to the rumour that Fayair are preparing to take on their former self?

That sounds like "apples and oranges".

Fayair is the non-commercial corporate flight department for Mr MAF operating on the Manx register with a Gulfstream 550 - they used to fly an M reg S76C++ but it's been with a certain excavator company for some months. There was a planning application by Fayair for a hangar at STN, though....

"former self" - I assume you refer to Air Harrods which is an AOC operator? Their current fleet is 1x109E, 1x109S, 2xS76C++, 1x92 - of which they own the 109S and the rest are operated for their owners (note: G-INFO marks each as "Chartered" when they are not "Owned"). Mr MAF could own the 109E and the S76s I suppose - they don't seem to be in a rush to re-register them away from MAF-related out-of-sequence registrations...? They may also be involved in operating the new Harrods owner's aircraft but these are unlikely to be available commercially.

The hangar at STN is near completion.

It has certainly been rumoured (for a while now) that Fayair may go head-to-head with Air Harrods but whether this rumour is based on anything resembling accuracy I know not.

If they remain in the corporate sector (which would seem obvious) I do wonder about the continuing suitability of that glorious helicopter .. the S76.

As I have said before .. I believe the corporate market will increasingly lean towards a "4 x 2" interior layout where two or three seats are offered behind the traditional four-place club arrangement as a growing proportion of the clientele traditionally served by the S76 are looking to accommodate their 'flunkies' and/or security .. on board.

If Fayair do set up as a new helicopter operator then one must assume that aircraft management will be their initial objective as S76 charter availability is fairly well covered by Air Harrods and Premiair in the south and by Haughey Air and Cardinal in the north and Midlands.

How I wish Sikorsky had reconsidered the development of the 'D' model to incorporate a stretch which could have accommodated an extra row of seats!

So will Fayair set up to maintain S76s? There's going to be a lot of competition now that Gama Engineering at Fairoaks are actively working on growing their S76 work.

Haughey Air no longer have an AOC.

Sounds like Air Harrods have got other big problems too. Anyone able to explain their recent pilot loss(es?)?

I was told very recently that a couple of Air Harrods pilots were being investigated by CAA. Could that be it?

I am pretty sure that, at least at some point in the past, Air Harrods operated under the AOC of Oxford Air Services. I believe OAS are now called something else Capital??

The flight incident sounds "interesting", although this report does not provide much detail, the limited facts hint at some "gethomeitis". The source of that will remain a matter for speculation.
