Birdspotting Offshore
A few weeks ago while on deck North Sea I caught sight of what looked like a Peregrine flying by, then over the weekend I saw another one.
I have seen many types of birds offshore inc many songbirds which I presume are migrating so there would not be a shortage of food for Peregrines. Interested to hear if anyone has had similar sightings ! thanks Pv |
Not many birds offshore, it's mainly blokes.

probably the best people for real information. |
There are a few of us out here who indulge in a bit of off-duty birding :ok:
Your Peregrine sighting is noteworthy, but not unusual. We tend to see more raptors during the Autumn migration periods when there are more (inexperienced) avian aviators about, I have had a family of 5 Kestrels staying here for more than two weeks making short work of the seemingly never-ending supply of exhausted small birds. Also regular are Merlin, Sparrowhawk, Long and Short-eared Owls, and I have had one-off sightings of Osprey and Buzzard. For a collection of offshore birdy photos see: Bird Photos by Mark Etheridge :: Fotopic.Net |
Often see hunting birds of various sizes during the bird migrations...saw a couple of osprey a couple of years ago on an unmanned deck in the southern sector. A few times owls.
I guess good feeding for them with tired small land birds passing through. |
Shouldn't this thread be on a plank forum?? :ugh:

Any plank can land on a deck. Only once, mind! :p
