back view camera + GPS on R44 - any ideas?
 

I have just found very good solution on EC 120.

Is there anything ever done on R44? Any ideas where and how to make it?

I can't figure out how to correlate the few photos but looking at the monitor screen, why does one want to stare up one's own backside for ? Especially in a Fenestron ?

The small Elmo cameras are a factory-installed option on the R44. Refer to R44 IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalog) Figures 17-9, 17-11, 17-13, and 17-15.

I agree with ReverseFlight, surely it would be of more use to see behind you to assist with confined areas and to make sure the area is clear?

Some tour operators have lipstick cam systems recording to miniDV. See this one in Sydney

Their system is I believe on a Squirrel and JR. The RHC ENG 44 tail cam is great - but I don't think you can retro-fit.

Take a look also at Geneva Aviation. They do a lot of approved (USA) camera systems.

There is a company in Lancashire who have a 4 camera system that works off low voltage with fully protected exterior and interior fittings including a recorder that works on a sim type card, have seen this being tested and it is almost bullet proof, gives cystal clear views and sound also, was tested to fit in Challenger Tanks to stop the big fellas reversing over soft objects, not expensive either. Ingnoring the Tank, the system weighs about 5 to 6 Lbs

pplh, It seems that when one uses things to operate in a questionable situation, that's when you get into trouble. If you're operating in such a confined area that a camera must be used to maintain t/r clearance on a R-44, then you're in an area that's too confined. No doubt there's a more suitable location within a mile of that location, if one would only look- at least a site that provides much less risk for nearly the same reward or value.

And if the operator has a problem with that, which is better- a little more money or work, or a destroyed R-44? Because afterward, it always seems to be the former than the latter.

I know of one guy in LA that did this to his 44. How i dont know, but he got an internetpage you can check out, and contact hin through that page.
