Helicopter Float Systems (video)

Hi all,

I remember someone asking a while back for images of helicopters landing on water. I came across this video on youtube.com by accident today.

Did anyone else notice this funny little vid' which appeared right after the floats one had finished?

Thanks!
I'd like to see one with a medium-heavy aircraft... like the S92 full down auto.

Is it a FAA mandated tests or just manufacturer?

Regards
Aser

I think Aser was thinking about into water with floatation.

Anyone know who was footing the bill for the aircraft being cleaned up after their swimming lessons.

yes, they do get a little messy from the testing. the 500 footage is from allen paulsen (gulfstream) ranch near oceanside ca, has a lake in the middle of the horse race track
the 105 is lake erie near ECL, that might be the last LS built, not 100% sure

widgeon 16th May 2009 21:17

Hey SC do they have the complete 105 video. As I recall they landed stopped the engines , restarted with a little rotation on the water before the TR kicked in and then took off . Gentleman Jim was flying I think.

Lovely Auto video, talk about a picture is worth a 1000 words.

southerncanuck 17th May 2009 15:28

widgeon, your correct, the full video does show jim having fun in sea state 3 or so!
where that video is, not sure
there are alot of scenes not on the video.
- 500 tailrotor / water contact, not good. summer charge on the oleos
- koala, tailrotor / water contact, even worse, little explosive
- but my personal favorite was gentleman jim, falling off the dolly, to one side, after test flight in the AS-350 and having the whits to gentley lift the ship back up and shut down. keep in mind he had the tri bag inflated, therefore nil downward vis. got my attention, i had visions of some "grey" blades splintering in my general direction

Nice vid...

Thanks Simon :ok:

generalspecific 18th May 2009 23:48

was it me but that 130 float system lets the fenestron get mighty close to the wet stuff..... stinger under water!

ReverseFlight 19th May 2009 06:32

Nice video, thanks. :ok: I think the first R44 forgot about the "5 degrees nose up" rule taught by RHC ... it takes very little to nose over, and jerking back from that mistake could mean a tail boom clip/chop.

rokija 28th May 2009 19:53

Nice video, thanks. Those autos seem pretty nasty.:ok:
