Anyone got any info as to what's happening in NSW with regard to tasking on fires today. Look like there may be something happening down South

Wingecarribee Fire (Gulp Road) Fire Update 06/01/09 16:30 Posted: 06/01/2009 A fire that started by a lightning strike on Sunday 4 January 2009 is currently burning uncontained in the Morton National Park, approximately nine kilometres east of Wingello. At this stage, the fire has burnt about 300 ha of forest. At 1500 today (Tuesday 6 January 2009), the fire was declared a bush fire emergency, meaning more resources are available. The fire is moving in an easterly direction under the influence of westerly winds. There is currently no threat to properties however smoke will affect the areas of Kangaroo Valley and Shoalhaven Heads. Firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), National Parks and Wildlife Service and Forests NSW are working on containing the fire. At this stage, it is burning in difficult and inaccessible terrain. Seven aircraft are being used along the northern, eastern and western sides of the fire. Due to the inaccessible nature of the terrain, bulldozers and graders are working around the perimeter of the fire to establish containment lines on the northwest and southwest edges. Weather conditions are expected to change on Thursday, resulting in cooler temperatures and higher humidity. There are currently no road closures in the area. However, motorists should take appropriate precautions when driving in smoke affected areas. People with respiratory conditions should take all appropriate precautions if affected by smoke. |
