Aviation Paramedics
 

What sort of requirements are you looking at to try and get a job as an aviation paramedic? Or even a rescue helicopter pilot with something like Telstra Careflight or Westpac Rescue? Does being a qualified paramedic make any difference?

you will find that the paramedics on rescue / EMS helicopters (in Australia) are Ambulance paramedics seconded from other duties within the sevice.

Being a Paramedic won't assist in the slightest for the EMS pilot jobs. The going minimum these days is around 2500 hours and at least 500 of that on twins. I'm guessing you mean Telstra Childflight and they are one of very few EMS operators that use co-pilots. Not sure of their requirements for that. :ok:

The flight paramedics for Westpac Rescue in Newcastle, Tamworth and Lismore are all employed by the Ambulance Service of NSW and when required for a mission respond from their respective stations or from wherever they happen to be when working on the road. :ok:

What they are not waiting with the pilot for the call?:eek:

A couple of the EMS/SAR services in Aus have dedicated paramedics for the aircraft but because they are relatively understaffed within the Ambulance Service, they work on the road and get called in for any jobs. They are not normally called away very far from the heli-base and their response times are very good.

In Queensland, the paramedics are based with the aircraft full-time but they too can be called out on the road if there are no other crews available.
