“My parents are fantastic and fund all my flying. We’re not well-off by any means and they have given up so much for me but my dad is so proud when he tells people that his daughter is a helicopter pilot.”

What was someone saying about daddy's money?

If someone can drop £80,000+ on their offspring's career then that is "well off" in my book.

Freewheel 14th February 2008 01:39

If I had to choose...

I'd rather have well off parents than have to resort to the furry logbook.

HeliCraig 14th February 2008 07:55

Just going back to the actual article for a moment.... (sorry). Is it just me, or does it read surprisingly like a rehash of the recent Guardian article?

Michael Owen has a heli-pad in his house!?

Maybe Michael Owen has hired Larry Hagman to fly him around! I seem to remember Mr. Hagman started his Hughes 500 IN the hangar and flew it out in the opening scene from 'Deadly Encounter'. I guess Michael doesn't like the cold.

NorthSeaTiger 14th February 2008 13:38

Recently he shipped a load of toilet rolls from Stoke to London.

Brilliant !!!

In the vid - why has the ex-trucker pilot got 4 bars on his shoulders?

video quote: "you can get a helicopter for the price of a car".

It never ceases to amaze me when people say things like that. People have no idea how expensive a decent heli costs to run.

Tiger_mate 14th February 2008 16:39

Now that V-Power (Super unleaded) fuel is £1.10 Ltr, [I think that is £1 tax and 10p for the fuel] probably as much as my Porsche. Of course a 'decent' helicopter is a perception thing, and I guess that you are talking about one with a real (turbine) engine.

They may have no idea regarding running costs, but there is no shortage of boys toys buzzing around at weekends. .....and they must be replacing microlights as fleet leaders in AAIB cases.

“Anyone who can afford a top-of-the-range Mercedes can afford a Robinson 22 [the entry level helicopter],” says Mr Rutty

Shouldn't the comparrison be an R22 with a robin reliant;)

FLY 7 14th February 2008 17:22

With regard to the running costs of a light helicopter, what's depreciation like?

Many prestige £100k cars shed 20% pa or more.

Why shouldn't the captain of the aircraft wear 4 bars?

manfromuncle 14th February 2008 20:48

PPL holders wearing gold bars? Discuss.

Bravo73 14th February 2008 20:58

Who says that Mr Bebbington is a PPL(H)?

http://www.helinews.com/cvboard/cvs/1281.html

:ugh:

(And I'm sure that he's probably reading this thread!)

manfromuncle 14th February 2008 22:25

My mistake, I thought the chap flying was the trucker who got his PPL. I stand corrected.
