Is Your Screen Up To The Job
Just wandered if anyone has had a bad experience with plexiglass/perspex screens,/ bubbles,/canopies. etc. Particular interest about whether anyone has sustained any sort of injury from this material. Thanks Bug.

I once saw an Enstrom for sale with a hole in the screen allegedly eaten by a horse. I cant imagine it did its arse much good.:}

Thanks Gaseous, I just spat a mouthful of tea across my desk.
Bug - I can't remember hearing of any injuries from plexi-glass/perspex. In fact, I hit a fair size bird a few weeks ago and all personnel on board were hit by pieces of perspex but no injuries, other than the bird - and my wallet. tam |
In 1986 I crashed a Hughes 300C during spraying wineyards.:{
When crawling out of the rubble I got a little cut on my nose caused by the broken plastic screen . The only injury I suffered and that's only because I had been in a hurry.:} Side effect of the shower in fungicides is that I got no dermatophyte since then:ok: Spencer17 |
Elephant in Botswana decided he didn't like a Jetranger and punched a hole in the plexiglass. Not sure if the said elephant had been darted by one recently but if he had, I guess it was fair game.

Perspex or any of the acrylics can be razor sharp when broken - polycarbonate might be better. I'll PM you the name and phone of a someone who may be able to help. He owns a company which makes such things - he owns a Rotorway...:uhoh: Nige |

Forgot to add to the above. As the bird came through it took the throttles back to idle, I think that concentrated the mind...:sad:

Obviously his dying wish was to take you with him, bet he was up in bird heaven sniggering as you sorted that one out.
My co-pilot flew us up the arse of a seagull at 110kts in a Sea King once which did nothing for my peace of mind and even less for the seagull's, but the windscreen stayed intact and at least when we landed we had a nice engineer to clean the giblets off for us. |
