Completeing Flight Training in a R44
 

I have a student who has done 30 hrs training in a R22 and has now bought a R44, he wants to finish his licence in his new machine I've read Lasors still trying to make sense of it any one out there got any answers

I can't quote chapter and verse but I believe a PPL has to be completed on one type only and R22 and R44 are different types so no, he can't complete his PPL on it.

He can complete his flight training on the R44 but he would have to do all the qualifying hours required for the issue of the PPL(H) on the R44, the CAA probably would not recognise the hours already flown in the R22.

Is it similar to Aus where you have to completed at least 20hours on type for the hours to count towards your licence?

Section C2.2

An applicant for a JAR-FCL PPL(H) shall have completed on one type of helicopter, <snip>, the particular requirements specified in (a) and (b) below.

a. 25 hours Dual instruction on Helicopters (must include 5 hours Instrument dual instruction time)

b. 10 hours supervised solo flight time on helicopters, must include:
i. 5 hours Solo cross-country flight time (including solo x-c qualifier).




Therefore, you must fulfil the minimum requirements above in the R44 (ie 35 hours). As I read it, the rest of the 10 hours could be in an R22.

Bravo 73, thats abut it. I had a student who did just that after flying 30hrs R22 and wanted to change. he had to do the qualifying hours. but no big deal. If you have the money and the a/c, I guess it isn't an issue except for time.

Nice one. Done a few ILS now, coupled/uncoupled, NDB practice, and not happy unless i'm in cloud nowadays! Beats working for a living. 15 days a month. Great!! :):ok:
