Hi there,

I´m most likely starting it after the summer here in Spain but, i´m a bit worried bout the quality of schools ...so i was wondering what are the best heli schools out there before i just spend a singlee pennie...;o)

A search on Rotorheads will give you more than enough information. You don't say whether you are looking for a ground school or flight school, integrated or modular, JAA or FAA and what sort of budget you have.

Depends a what your plan is, make sure you get the courses you need i.e. integrated course/modular course. You might want to do for example all the ATPL-theory or only CPL and then add a IR or FI to that...

Check with the school that all the courses that you are going to attend are approved under there TRTO/FTO, specially check that they are helicopter courses. Also, check then with the Authority that the courses you are attending are approved.

Don't pay all the course in advance, pay as you go! (the theory courses you might have to pay up in front thou).

Right, i´m looking for an integrated course with IR included. I guess it should be JAA in first place to work here in the UE? or...

The spanish school i told you about were offering this on their integrated: CPL,IR, ATPL theory, MCC, R22 and Ecureuil AS355 Ht´s. This was the only school that had a biturbine...

The FI seems like a logical step to do some flight time...how many hours a day does a FI do?

Not many integrated course providers in the UK; I can only think of Cabair at the moment. Oxford no longer do helicopter training.

The moduluar route will be more flexible and it what most people choose even if they are doing it full-time.

Try this WEB: www.extracrew.com with information about all schools I would suggest you Aeromadrid, as the safer and serious one. I mean safer because there are schools like Aerea with a three accidents a year rate...

Aha...so do u think doing CPL and then IR would be a better route? i was thinking a bit like..."well do as much as you can so u look a bit more attractive" but, maybe its a bit nonsense paying all that money from the early beggining...?

I know this is not an easy busyness and a big investment so i´m thinking bout everything twice..;o)...I´ll be speaking to a family friend who is already a pilot to get some info bout everything so i can have a better picture and then move from there.

I´m 30 right now, it took me some time to put all that money together, huh?!?! hehehe....this is just something i´ve been waiting since i was a kid...

Been messing with that FAQ on this rotor forum...a lot of info there...i didnt even know that a rotor forum was available.

Found there that Helicopters Adventures at Florida, they offer a course of JAA and FAA combined...until now i didnt even consider to get and FAA convalidation, would it be interesting?

Pardon my ignorance but, for what i´ve read, Canada has his own license? not FAA or JAA, right?

Last, i´ve seen most of you speak bout ground schools and flight schools as different things so, i was wondering what´s the difference....i thought that when studying to be a pilot one would have theory classes on the ground and flight training aswell...i guess this is more me missunderstanding....;o)

Yes, I've just written the notes for an integrated course. Bit early to start ringing up, though. It's all got to go through the mill. However modular version available real soon now. You can PM for details.

Yes, administered by Transport Canada. The only school to offer anything on that side of the water is HAI in Florida, but that's residential, and for ATPL(H). However, Canada's system is up to ICAO standard.

Thecontroller, yeah...you´re absolutely right...that´s why i´m asking SO MUCH...trying to get as much info as i can. As i said its not something i decided a couple of days back....thx for the headups anyways..;o)

When u say, look at wich country would u like to work...if i do a combined FAA_JAA CPL...i´d be able to work at the UE & USA, right?

NZ looks like a good place to go...so does the USA, althought as u said i need to know bout the other costs apart from the course itself. Its kind of a hard and confusing decision to take.

In a field of one (of UK integrated providers), that should be quite straight forward! ;)

Btw, doing some reading here i´ve found some people speaking very cool things bout a school called... OZ? Cant find a link for it anyone can direct me to their site?

Bravo 73 - there will be a modular course as well in about two weeks!

And it won't take much to add fixed wing! In fact, that's already done, we're just too busy to do anything about it!
