Hot, High and Humid
New job will rquire mountain flying up to 12K ft. for short periods. Not so bad in the winter for heli skiing etc, but dropping hikers off in the mountains in summer 40 C and humid is another matter.
Does anyone have experience of R44 and Jetranger in this environment. Also interested to hear about peoples experience of high AUW autos at altitude 10K. |
Sorry no R44 input for you but I've operated 206's for quite long periods in Ethiopia, ISA +30 at 10-12,000ft. You'll only have about 70% torque available due ToT limiting and it is absolutely crucial to be into wind on landing and take-off.
This translated to three light pax and 100lbs of kit. I used smokes grenades to give a genuine wind direction because we were landing in all sorts of random places where you couldn't rely on finding natural indications. If you're using helipads regularly make sure you get a decent windsock up asap!:ok: Sorry, didn't do any autos but I think you can expect lots of revs! |
