G-EHMS back over London.
Just read the latest issue of Police Aviation News and saw that G-EHMS, London HEMS, is back in the skies over London.
The reason for being away for so long was because it was the first airframe in the UK to have the extended tail boom. I'm also guessing it had the annual inspection at the same time...it'd make sense. Check out page 11 of PAN. http://www.policeaviationnews.com/Ac...cember2006.pdf I'll see if I can get some pics when I'm back in the UK in a few weeks. Regards Jim :} |
So size does matter?
The tailboom thruster extension is said to improve tail authority at low speed and allow ops with a 250lb increase in MAUW of 6500lbs (subject to a change in the flight manual), while adding only 14 lbs to the weight of the airframe. FAA approval has been obtained and EASA is now completing their validation process. Apparently Virgin London HEMS is the first UK operator to do the mod, and expect to be operational with it before the end of the year. Hope we can get some PIREPs in the New Year. Heliport |
Heliport,
Thanks for moving this topic, I should have started a new thread but thought it'd be betted to continue in an old one...guess I was wrong! :\ I hope there will be some input from others that have flown with the mod to see if it really is an improvement. I'd really like to see MD helicopters get back on their feet! Regards Jim :} |
