Jeep Collides with Helicopter in Russia’s Far East

A jeep collided with a helicopter near the Russian town of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski, Interfax said Sunday.

The helicopter was being towed by a truck along the road at about 1:30 a m local time. The helicopter’s chassis are slightly wider than the average pathway, so they stuck out into the opposing traffic lane.

The night was foggy and the jeep car driver had been drinking, so he failed to notice the unusual obstacle until the helicopter was right in front of him when there was no evading the accident.

As a result of the collision, the chassis came off and the helicopter turned over. The jeep’s driver received several bruises.

A similar thing happened at Culdrose in the winter of 1970/71 when the Met 'tilly' being driven by a Wren one dark morning swerved around a tractor not realising that it was towing a Wessex 5. The subsequent collision removed the right oleo and the aircraft ended up on its side! Wrens did not come under the Naval Discipline Act in those days so she only got a telling off!!!
